The boys Varsity Soccer was back and better than ever. Boasting a roster of 25 plus students, this is one of BRP’s biggest teams. The team has improved a lot since last season and they had their new captains to show for it. This year's captains were Cy Golanski, Alex Foroohar, and Caleb Zell-Rattner. These three captains are experienced seniors who were able to lift the team and give advice to younger players. The team practiced two to three times a week, led by coaches Riti and Mike. Both coaches are committed to creating strong and well-rounded players.
This was an outstanding season for the Varsity soccer team. Our final record was 6 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie. In the regular season, we finished right under York Prep and secured the second seed in the playoffs. After a decisive semifinals game against L.R.E.I, Bay Ridge Prep was bound for the ISAL championship round against York Prep. The game was a heart wrenching 2-1 victory for BRP, who brought home the trophy for the first time in history. This then secured the team a spot in NYSAIS, a statewide tournament between the best private schools in the state. Even though the boys lost 3 nil to Portledge School in Long Island, everyone was proud to be there and the team lost with class. Overall, it was a great season for the Varsity boys who set the bar for next year's team.
With the size of this year's roster, the school has also introduced JV games to give up and coming players time to shine. The JV team is led by captains Aitan Winter and Graham Ford. Even though this was on very short notice, the team clicked in right away and put their best foot forward against LREI in their first game last week. Though they lost with a score of, 4-5 it was still a significant game for some new players: 3 Freshman were able to score their first goals and made sure to celebrate accordingly. This is the team that will grow and nurture the future varsity players and make them into goal scoring machines.
Overall Bay Ridge Prep’s soccer team had an incredible record breaking season winning their first ever league title and the boys can't wait to do it again next year. GO TIGERS!
