On January 17, a night of celebration of the arts turned the lower floors of BRP into incredible performance spaces and art galleries. The talented musicians, artists, and actors took their spots at tonight at The Winter Arts Festival, showcasing what they had been working on this fall and winter.

The Winter Arts Festival is an annual event that showcases the artistic talent of BRP students. Parents, alumni, and students alike were invited to indulge in the night’s events accompanied by snacks and drinks. The performances ranged from dramatic renditions of Shakespeare, performed by senior Caden Guy, to lovable classics like Scenes From an Italian Restaurant and Don’t Stop Believing by high school musicians.

But, that is not all for the arts this year…

In just a couple of weeks, the Arts Department and the Visual Arts Club will be collaborating to bring a new art showcase to life: The Senior Arts Showcase. Coming up this spring, the art showcase is designed to highlight the artistic talents of our graduating seniors.

We also spoke with the Arts Dept. Chair, Ms.Ng, to understand where this showcase began. Ms. Ng says “The idea of the senior showcase came from a conversation I was having with a few seniors last year during one of our visual arts classes. They were interested in learning about art galleries and career paths of visual artists.” As a new addition, the Arts Department decided to include different forms of art as well, “ This year, since we have many student performing artists, we will be expanding the showcase to include musicians and thespians.”

The arts at BRP are a place for creativity and support. With the help of students and teachers alike, great work is created for everyone to share. Ms.Ng says “Every year, I am amazed by the students' artistry, hard work, and dedication. It is essential that students have a platform to share their talents, and communicate their creative ideas to a larger audience.”

The fun has just begun and we hope to see you in future events…

Look out for more news!

If you cannot get enough of art, do not fret! BRP will also be hosting the annual Fine Arts Fusion right before Bay Ridge Prep students part for the summer! With the same aim as the Winter Arts Festival, this event is an exciting way to end the year and get ready for summer break and warm days ahead.
